Italy announces 80 million euros for flood affectees
ISLAMABAD: Italy has announced to donate 80 million euros for the flood affectees on Friday. Italian Foreign Affairs Minister Franco Frattini declared this during a meeting with Pakistani Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, who is currently visiting Rome, Naeem Ijaz Qureshi, a senior official in the Pakistan Embassy in Rome, told APP. Shaikh apprised Frattini about the floods, which had devastated most parts of the country. He also briefed the Italian foreign minister about the economic reforms being carried out by Pakistan, and their positive impact on the country’s economy. The minister discussed with Frattini the possibilities of greater economic cooperation between Pakistan and the EU member countries, including Italy. He also drew attention of the Italian ministers towards greater access of Pakistani products, including textile to the EU markets. Frattini appreciated Pakistan’s role against the war on terrorism and informed the visiting Pakistani finance minister that Italy had written letters to the foreign ministers of all European countries, lobbying them to facilitate duty-free access to Pakistani textile exports in the European markets. He also lauded the efforts of the Pakistani government and its people in managing the devastating flood situation courageously and efficiently. Frattini also appreciated Shaikh’s policies for an economic turnaround and growth of the national economy in the country. app
