Politics of reconciliation to solve national problems: Gilani
MULTAN, Sep 13 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday reiterated his commitment to politics of reconciliation saying only this path will solve problems of the country.While addressing a gathering of people, notables and elected representatives after exchanging Eid greetings with them at the Circuit House here, the Prime Minister said a united endeavour by all political forces can help solve country’s problems and mitigate sufferings of the flood affectees.The Premier asked MNAs and Senators to divert their development funds to rebuilding of homes of the flood hit people and provide them relief adding that a one time waiver would be granted for utilization of these funds to help the affectees.
He thanked political parties, political leaders, civil society, philanthropists, people and the international community for extending generous support to the government to help the flood affected people.
Gilani said Pakistanis are a brave nation and their united effort to reach out to the flood affectees and extend generous help was indicative of their strength as a nation.
These are testing times, a test from the Almighty Allah, the Prime Minister said adding the large scale natural calamity has brought the whole nation together.
“We can rebuild a new Pakistan, rebuild the homes of the poor flood affectees with the support of the people,” Gilani observed.
He said it was his desire that everybody including the opposition should be on board on all important issues because unity among political forces was a recipe to solving country’s problems.
“I consult parliament on all issues and believe in strengthening institutions under the ambit of constitution.”
He pledged to strengthen parliament and work for the supremacy of the constitution.
He impressed upon the people that nobody can single handedly solve all problems and only institutions can meet big challenges.
He promised to promote a fair and transparent system comprising strong institutions that does not overlook the poor and in which talented people get jobs they deserve.
“We are moving forward in this direction,” he remarked.
The Prime Minister said, “we are giving priority to reorganizing the party and added that he has also discussed the matter with President Asif Ali Zardari.”
He said PPP was a federal party equally popular in all the four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir.
Being a popular party having roots in all corners of the country and the architect of 1973 Constitution, PPP guarantees the security of the country, the PM said and added that the party was in the interest of Pakistan. “We will keep moving forward to guard the national interests of Pakistan and to serve the people,” he said.
He stressed on introduction of new blood through new membership in the party to strengthen it further as part of its reorganization.
He said PPP was an ideological party deriving strength from the sacrifices of its martyred leaders Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and the party workers.
“We will protect it and will not let the sacrifices of martyrs go waste.”
Gilani said the PPP-led government was giving priority to the reconciliation policy because it was the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
PPP was the only political party in South Asia that had offered countless sacrifices for protecting rights of the people and safeguarding the national interests of Pakistan, he added.
Gilani said the party also takes pride in the loyalty of its workers who remained attached to it from 1970 till to date. “They won’t leave us because their attachment with the party was ideological.”
Reiterating commitment to strengthen institutions, the Prime Minister said that success of the institutions was success of the country.
He said that happiness and well being of the people lied in accomplishments of initiatives that benefit the whole nation.
He aired an impassioned appeal to the nation to keep supporting the government and extend cooperation to rebuild demolished homes of the flood hit people and help them relaunch their businesses they had lost to the worst floods.
He said that he was fully aware of the problems of the people and would visit Multan twice a month to help address issues and oversee the relief and rehabilitation operation in flood hit areas.
He directed MPAs to maintain close contact with the people and help solve their problems.
He said that philanthropists and notables of Multan should keep extending help to alleviate sufferings of the flood hit people in their respective areas.
The recent floods in Pakistan were unprecedented and the people affected by it deserved all kind of assistance, Gilani added.
The Prime Minister said Multan was his home and he was exchanging greetings with the people since the second day of Eid.
He said that as Prime Minister whole of Pakistan was his constituency and this very fact broadens the scope of his responsibility.
MPAs Syed Ahmad Mujtaba Gilani, Malik Mohammad Amir Dogar, Malik Ahmad Hussain Dehar, Syed Nazim Hussain Shah and PM’s media coordinator Khawaja Rizwan Alam were also present there.
