It’s time for development work in flood-hit areas: Taseer

Staff Report

LAHORE: This is a need of the time to concentrate on development work in the flood-affected areas, and the provincial government should adopt a proper strategy to estimate and reinstate the damages caused by the floods, Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer said on Friday.

He said this in a press conference at the Governor’s House.

Taseer said that he had visited the flood-hit areas of Muzaffargarh, Kot Adu, Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Deen, Sultan Colony, Taunsa, Jampur, Rajanpur, Thatha Sial, Layyah, Khudai Basti, Chak Basti Fida, Rohelan Wali, Jatoe, Kepco and other places where he found people in an adverse state.

He said he had distributed relief goods and cheques among the affectees himself. “I also observed their troubles and I am satisfied with their resolve”, Taseer said.

“As far as the relief efforts, every officer concerned including the district coordination officers (DCOs) are doing their best to help the flood victims, which pleased me during my visit,” the governor said. “The government, all political parties and almost every citizen is trying hard to accelerate the relief efforts,” he added.

The governor said that this was not the time for politics, as humanity should be served without any bias. He said that members of the national and provincial assemblies had played a remarkable role in sustaining the flood affectees. “If we fail to facilitate the affectees, then the citizens of Pakistan will not spare us ever,” Taseer added.
