Haqqani meets US attorney general over Aafia case
WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani met with US Attorney General Eric Holder and expressed sentiments of the Pakistani people over the case involving Dr Aafia Siddiqui. The envoy demanded a withdrawal of the case against American-educated Aafia, in which she had been accused of attempting an attack on US officials in Afghanistan, diplomatic sources said. According to sources, the US attorney general said he was aware of Pakistani’s feelings and emotions over Dr Aafia’s case and that it would be decided in accordance with the relevant US laws. Meanwhile, expert sources opined that since the jury had already convicted Aafia, the judge can only determine sentence from between maximum and minimum legal terms. app
