US should expedite release of pledged aid
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday expressed the hope that the US would expedite disbursement of assistance pledged under the Kerry Lugar bill and make long overdue payments of the Coalition Support Fund.
The prime minister was talking to US Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke who called on him along with a delegation at the Prime Minister’s House. Gilani told Holbrooke that the National Oversight Disaster Management Council had been constituted to ensure transparency, accountability and judicious utilisation of foreign assistance for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the flood-affected areas. The prime minister appreciated expected US announcement of a comprehensive package for the rehabilitation and reconstruction phases at the forthcoming Friends of Democratic Pakistan ministerial meeting in Brussels.
