‘Change-mongers’ are wasting their time, says Gilani
* PM says those talking of unconstitutional change should come up with substitute that can unite all provinces
* Govt will complete five-year tenure despite unwarranted criticism

LAHORE: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani stressed on Saturday that the democratic government was stable and it would complete its constitutional tenure.
“The government is not going to change just because someone said so. I would advise those talking of bringing an unconstitutional change in the country to stop wasting their time,” Gilani said, while addressing a gathering of businessmen in Lahore.
“Some undemocratic forces are involved in an unjustified propaganda campaign against the government. It is unfortunate that they are trying to destabilise democracy,” Gilani said, adding that political stability was necessary for economic progress.
“Those talking about such a change should also suggest a substitute that can unite all the four provinces,” the PM said, adding that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government had the full support of all the provinces.
“It will not be advisable to push it against the wall. No compromise will be made on principles,” Gilani said, adding that the PPP had rejected many offers of coming into power through the backdoor.
“We did not get this government as a gift from someone. We were empowered by the people of Pakistan. Political forces struggled for nine years to achieve this. I myself spent five years behind bars. We were not afraid then, and even now this unwarranted criticism cannot deter us,” the PM said.
