Waterlevel at Manchhar recedes as flow diverted towards Indus
LAHORE: Water level has receded in Manchhar Lake after 10 cuts were made in the protective embankments in Bhan Saeedabad city to divert the flow towards Indus River, a private TV channel reported on Saturday. Several adjoining villages and various parts of the Indus Highway have been inundated by floodwater. According to reports, road links between Sehwan and Obarao City have been disconnected and a large portion of the road has been swept away. The waves have also submerged a PARCO oil refinery’s pumping station in the area. Many of PARCO’s staff was stranded in the station. However, the pumping station was safe, the channel said. Meanwhile, a big deluge of over 34,000 cusecs of water released from India in the Sutlej River has entered the limits of Burewala and Vehari. According to local administration, residents of the areas will not be affected, as the riverbed is quite wide and the deluge will go through smoothly in the river without causing any damage. daily times monitor
