Argentinean envoy distributes relief goods in Sindh

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Argentinean Ambassador Rodolfo J Martin-Saravia along with federal ministers Makhdoom Shahabuddin and Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah on Saturday visited flood-hit areas near Sukkur to personally deliver the humanitarian aid sent by Argentina and other organisations.

Health Director General (DG) Dr Rashid Jooma, World Health Organisation Country Representative Guido Sabatinelli, an MNA from Sukkur and local officials accompanied him, said a press release.

Saravia distributed water purification tablets to several families and healthcare authorities.

He said it was part of the first batch of relief goods sent by his government. “As I said before, we will not remain detached from this crisis,” he said.

“We have delivered 50,000 water purification tablets to the health authorities in Sindh. Each of these tiny tablets can purify 20 litres of water. Therefore, this is enough to purify one million liters of water. I know that this is just a drop in a sea of human suffering, but it is our sincere contribution to help in this crisis,” the ambassador said.

He said the Argentinean government would send a second cargo of 25 boxes of water purification tablets. “We are working with the commercial airlines in order to request their collaboration for the delivery of more boxes of these water purification tablets,” he added. “The Argentinean government has donated another batch of aid goods and I am looking for a partner that can now donate the cost of the air freight from Argentina to Pakistan,” he said.
