FM Qureshi thanks German Chancellor for flood support, trade access
NEW YORK, Sept 22 (APP): Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mehmood Qureshi expressed profound thanks on behalf of the Government and People of Pakistan to Chancellor Angela Merkel for the generous support Germany has provided for the flood affectees.He also expressed gratitutde for Germany’s strong support for Pakistan’s case at the E.U. Special Session for enhanced market access.
Meeting the German Chancellor over a luncheon hosted by her in honour of the heads of delegations of the Asian Group on the occasion of High-level Plenary Meeting on the Millennium Development Goals, Qureshi also appreciated her personal role in mobilizing private donations for the flood victims.
The German Government and public have so far provided $218 million under flood relief assistance to Pakistan.
Showing an extraordinary gesture of solidarity with the people of Pakistan, Chancellor Merkel gave the floor to Foreign Minister Qureshi who briefed the heads of delegations on the latest flood situation in Pakistan and the steps the Government of Pakistan has taken to ensure the transparent and effective use of flood assistance.
