Bill seeks right for individual to file high treasons case
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Tuesday referred five private members bills to relevant standing committees for further deliberations, including the High Treason (Punishment) (Amendment) Bill 2010 that suggests individuals should be given right to file a high treason case instead of the federal government.
In the bill, the High Treason (Punishment) (Amendment) Bill 2010, moved by Khurram Dastgir of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Khurram said the federal government had not filed a high treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf so far and said that his amendment of section 3 should be allowed to be introduced in the House. The bill suggests that a high court will take cognisance of an offence punishable under this Act upon a complaint in writing made by any citizen of the country.
The House also referred the Pakistan Penal Code (Amendment) Bill 2010, the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2010 and the Pakistan Commission of Inquiry (Amendment) Bill 2010 to the committees concerned while it adopted the Banking Companies (Amendment) Bill 2010.
