FO dismisses Indian objection to resolutions on Kashmir
ISLAMABAD : Pakistan on Thursday dismissed Indian reaction to the resolutions passed by Pakistani parliament over the gross violations of human rights and asked India to ‘take a fresh look at its unhelpful Kashmir policy.’The Foreign Office reacting to the remarks by the Spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, on resolutions passed by both Houses of Parliament on the situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir, said these were evidently self-serving.
“Jammu and Kashmir is an international issue and subject of several UN resolutions,” a statement from the Foreign Office said.
The statement said the resolutions of September 20 of the Senate and the National Assembly reflect the “concerns of the people of Pakistan on the gross and systematic violations of human rights of the Kashmiri people by Indian security forces.”
Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said the situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir was also a matter of concern to the international community and pointed that the UN Secretary General has expressed concerns and called for an end to deadly violence in Kashmir.
The OIC Secretary General has also called on India to take immediate steps to “end violence against innocent people in Kashmir.” The Amnesty International has asked India to ensure respect for the Kashmiri people’s “right to life”.
Human Rights Watch has called for an immediate and a transparent inquiry “into human rights abuses” in Jammu and Kashmir, the spokesman said.
“India needs to take a fresh look at its unhelpful Kashmir policy. Pakistan is committed to finding a just and peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, and will continue extending its moral, diplomatic and political support to Kashmiris in their legitimate struggle against Indian occupation,” the spokesman said.
