Fai stresses urgent solution of Kashmir dispute
ISLAMABAD : The Executive Director of Kashmir Center Washington, Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, has said that Kashmir is the oldest unresolved dispute and an effort is urgently required to settle it permanently.Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, addressing the OIC Contact Group meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in New York, said that human rights situation in Indian held Kashmir had not changed and the people were experiencing the horrors of state-sponsored terrorism including extra judicial killings and targeting peaceful demonstrators, Kashmir Media Service reported.
He said that apart from magnitude of violence by the military forces, the most poignant aspect of the situation was the acute suffering of the whole population caused by the frequent curfews, disregard of normal life, arrests, detentions and sometimes disappearances of innocent civilians by the authority.
Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai said that under unparalleled concentration of over 700,000 Indian troops, there was a deliberate targeting of youth with the intent to crush the liberation movement against Indian occupation.
Flaying India for legalizing its state-sponsored terrorism in the occupied territory, he said that the authorities had given the troops powers to shoot to kill and the licence to abuse the people of the territory in whatever ways they liked to suppress the popular movement for self-determination.
These tactics have no military purpose whatsoever and their only imaginable purpose is to terrorize people, he added.
He said that solution of the Kashmir dispute was both urgent and vital as it had a far more populous and strategic area than other trouble spots in the world.
He said that the pain, suffering and humiliation in Kashmir were intensified because Kashmiris had been under Indian occupation for over 63 years.
