FM Qureshi takes up NATO violation with top US officials, says incursion unacceptable
WASHINGTON
Terming the recent NATO planes intrusion into Pakistani territory as “unacceptable,” Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday said he has taken up the issue with top U.S. officials in his meetings. “I have spoken about this with Senator (John) Kerry and I am taking it up with the (US) National Security Advisor — I think it is unacceptable,” Qureshi told reporters after a meeting with Senator Kerry the Capitol Hill. Qureshi was due to meet President Obama’s National Security Advisor James Jones Wednesday afternoon. Asked about the NATO helicopters’ violation of Pakistan’s territorial integrity,in purusit of militants, from across the Afghan border, the foreign minister replied”
“It is a complete violation of the mandate that ISAF (international security assistance forces) have been given and should not be repeated.” The chief Pakistani diplomat said the people of Pakistan “feel very strongly about it. And I have taken it up.”
The foreign minister and Senator Kerry, who heads the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, discussed response to the humanitarian crisis triggered by unprecedented flooding in Pakistan. app
