FM seeks greater trade access to US

 

WASHINGTON : Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday asked the United States to grant preferrential trade access to Pakistani products as the country urgently needs to impart a new momentum to its economy in view of flooding disaster which has severely hit the agricultural growth. “Pakistan is looking for greater market access to the United States — keeping in view the flooding situation a fresh look is needed for progress on Reconstruction Opportunity Zones,” he said.
Qureshi was speaking at a US Chamber of Commerce’s Business Civic Leadership Center event, which highlighted ways to assist Pakistan’s massive flood recovery. Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani also attended the event.
The foreign minister said the Eropean Union countries have unanimously agreed to give preferrential trade access for Pakistan. Qureshi also invited the American entepreneurs to avail tremendous investment opportunities existing in various sectors in Pakistan.
He said Pakistan and the United States will hold next round of strategic dialogue next month. app
