KESC demands re-opening of service offices

Karachi: Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has demanded the government to vacate the utility’s main offices and numberless service and public complaint centers across the city that were forcefully closed down by armed union mobsters on Monday and Tuesday and said that closing down of offices would deprive the citizens of any repair facility of local faults during the celebration of Eid festival.

While announcing that there would be no load shedding on three days of Eid-ul-Fitr in the city, KESC said that the power utility had made all out arrangements to provide uninterrupted power supply as a humble present to the Karachi citizens to celebrate this festive occasion with peace and joy with their families. However, the unauthorised and illegal shutting down of service and complaint centers by armed union terrorists on the eve of ‘Chand Raat’ could make it extremely difficult for KESC to attend to local faults on this festive occasion.

In a press release, KESC demanded immediate action by the government for re-opening of service and maintenance offices and legal action against those responsible for this illegal and anti-social act. KESC alleged that on Monday the union-led armed men opened straight fire on security guards and policemen, injuring one guard and one cop. They kept firing gunshots and throwing stones at the head offices throughout the day after they had seized all the entry points and forced the top management and all other employees to remain confined to the premises as hostages for full 12 hours.

During the course of their evacuation late in the night under heavy security cover, the terrorists continued to attack and throw stones at the employees including female members. At least 12 KESC employees were badly hurt in the attacks. A car carrying female members of KESC staff was attacked by miscreants injuring two female employees. While condemning this act, KESC expressed great anguish over the fact that the terror strikers had been using automatic weapons.

They also burnt a police vehicle outside the Gizri Grid gate and exploded one transformer at Gizri Grid Station. Indiscriminate firing and throwing of stones also damaged KESC property and private vehicles belonging to employees. The terror strikers attacked Queens Road Grid Station at Mai Kolachi Road where they switched off transformers and feeders thereby temporarily disconnecting power supply to the CM House and other important locations. ppi
