Malik for setting-up of PCOs in jails
KARACHI: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Friday said that he would propose setting up of public call offices (PCOs) in jails to enable the prisoners to contact their family members. The minister was talking to media persons after a visit to Central Prison Karachi (CPK). He said that he would move a proposal to the prime minister with regard to setting up five PCOs in each jail for providing access to prisoners to their families. The calls of prisoners would be recorded and monitored, he added. Malik said that the prisoners were being provided telephone facility with monitoring at jails in different countries. He said legislation with regard to setting up PCOs in jails would also be undertaken. The interior minister said that he has received some reports about use of mobile phones in jails. Malik appreciated the authorities concerned for introducing various reforms in Sindh jails, which he said, had produced good results. He said that the salaries of jails officials in Sindh would be enhanced and these would be brought at par with the salaries of Motorway Police. app
