Three-day gas holiday for CNG from tomorrow

LAHORE: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has announced to observe three-day gas holiday for commercial sector and two-day holidays for industries in a week. This was announced by SNGPL Managing Director (MD) Arif Hameed at a news conference on Saturday.
He said CNG holidays were cut down during the last days of the holy month of Ramadan to facilitate people who had to travel to their native towns to celebrate Eid with their loved ones. “CNG supply on Eid holidays was also uninterrupted,” he said.
According to the schedule, SNGPL has divided Punjab into two zones. In Lahore, Sahiwal, Gujranwala and Multan regions, CNG holidays will be observed from Monday to Wednesday while in Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and Islamabad region CNG stations will remain closed on Thursday and Friday every week. The SNGPL MD said the company would launch a drive from Monday (tomorrow) to recover its outstanding dues from defaulters.
He said the company had already detected 410 cases of direct by-passes by non consumers. Answering a question, he said the company had increased its transmission and distribution networks from 87,746 kms in March 2011 to 89,441 kms in June 2011. “Around 105,223 consumers are added to the system from 3,859,127 in March 2011 to 3,964,350 in June 2011,” he added.
He said that SNGPL faced huge gap between demand and supply due to expansion in network every year. “This situation is further aggravated due to reduction in supplies from major gas fields that supply gas to SNGPL’s network,” he added.
Giving a break up, Arif said, at present, total demand on the SNGPL network was 2,200 MMCFD against supply of approximate 1,900 MMCFD hence shortfall of 300 MMCFD. “However, during winter this shortfall will increase to 950 MMCFD,” he added. To a question, the MD said, owing to closure of Qadirpur gas fields, SNGPL was facing additional shortfall of 400 MMCFD from August 29, to September 07.
“Moreover, an average shortfall of 60 MMCFD will be faced during performance test at Qadirpur gas field from September 18 to October 14 in addition to ATAs of Zamzams and Dakhni gas fields during this period,” he added. He added that the company’s competent engineers restored one portion of Qadirpur gas fields while remaining portion of the gas filed would be restored in phases. app
