‘Terrorist’ arrested after encounter in Karachi

KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Sindh police on Saturday claimed to have arrested an alleged terrorist belonging to Hizbullah (Para Channar Group Ahl-e-Tashi) involved in bank robberies, street crimes, encounters and snatching of motorbikes and other heinous crimes after an encounter. It also seized a kalashnikov, two hand grenades and cash from his possession.
On a tip-off, a CID team headed by SSP Fayyaz Khan conducted a raid at PECHS area near UBL Bank along Tariq Road and after an exchange of firing, arrested the terrorist.
The arrested man was identified as Abid Hussain Bangash, a member of Hizbullah (Para Channar Group Ahl-e-Tashi).
SSP Fayyaz Khan said, “The arrested man was involved in recent bank robberies and dacoities in Karachi and funding the Hizbullah for militants training and terrorism. The accused also got training from Para Channar and provided funds to his group from Karachi. He was also involved in many bank robberies and other heinous crimes.”
During the initial investigation the detained militant disclosed that he along with his six accomplices, Zakir Hussain, Wajid, Hussain Jan, Asif, Gulab and Nawaz looted Rs 3.2 million from a bank within the limits of Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station, according to the SSP. “The accused revealed that they also looted Rs 3.7 million from a bank within Pirabad police station limits along with his accomplices,” the SSP further informed.
According to the SSP, the arrested man admitted that they also snatched a truck loaded with threads from Quaidabad and sold it to a person Khattak at Rs 0.5 million.
“The accused told during investigation that they had also stolen 10 motorbikes and sold their parts at Hub Chowki. He also revealed that he got training from Para Channar in main Imambargah, adding Ali Akbar and Ashiq Hussain were the incharges of the training centre which trained boys of banned Sipah-i-Muhammad and Hizbullah activists.”
“Police have recovered a kalashnikov, two hand grenades and Rs230,000 cash of looted bank from the accused, while an FIR has also been registered against him. Further investigation is underway,” according to the SSP.
