37 more suspects arrested in Karachi

KARACHI: Thirty-seven more suspects, including six land grabbers, two dozen gamblers and a target killer, were taken into custody in search operation conducted by Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) in different vicinities of the city on Tuesday. According to official sources, the operation was carried out on the pointation of arrested persons who revealed that some miscreants involved in recent target killings were hiding at Asif Colony, Sango Lane, Nayaabad, Pak Colony, Art Chowk and Liaquatabad.

Reacting on this information, heavy contingents of Rangers, female personnel, commandos and policemen cordoned off these areas. Resultantly, they detained 37 suspects and shifted them to unknown place for interrogation. The sources said LEAs faced severe resistance from inhabitants during the operation at Sango Lane from where they detained three persons and recovered two kalashnikovs, three pistols and a snatched bike from their possession. They said two persons were held from Asif Colony located at Pak Colony area and one kalashnikov and a TT pistol were recovered from them.

Police and Rangers also conducted raid at a gambling den at Ghaas Mandi, detained some 24 gamblers and confiscated huge quantity of gaming tools.

Similarly, another gambling den was raided at Nattha Khan where LEAs recovered a TT pistol, a repeater and a snatched bike. However, no gambler was arrested in the raid. Some six land grabbers along with five others were arrested at Bismillah Centre, Sohrab Goth, Gaddap and Surjani in separate raids. The officials said that two target killers, Kashif alias Borha and Zafar alias Andha, were nabbed from Landhi and Saudabad, respectively, adding LEAs also recovered two kalashnikovs and two pistols from their possession. The sources said LEAs had so far conducted search operation at over 170 places and detained some 670 suspects, including 34 target killers and six land grabbers, besides recovering 180 weapons from their possession. staff report
