No new unit added; power shortfall hits 3300MW


LAHORE: Electricity shortfall has climbed to 3300 MW as no new addition could be made to the national grid and as a result the energy crisis has worsened and loadshedding increased across the country, Geo News reported Thursday.

According to PEPCO spokesman, the total power generation stands at 13.782 MW against the demand of 16,997 MW, leaving a gap of 3300 MW. This has led to loadshedding up to 6 hours in cities and 10 hours in rural parts of the country.

He said the break up of the country's present power generation is as follows: hydel 6080 MW and thermal 1607 MW while the electricity coming from IPPs stands at 5699 MW.
