Karachi violence case: IB report presented in SC
KARACHI: The hearing of the suo motu Karachi violence case was adjourned on Friday till September 13, Geo News reported.
The five-member bench of the Supreme Court is headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. During Friday’s proceedings, Attorney General Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq presented the report of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) before the bench.
Advocate General Sindh, Fateh Malik presented a summary of different cases from July 24 till August 24. The Chief Justice directed the Advocate General to provide details of the firing on a bus in Banaras and the kidnapping of footballers in Lyari.
IG Sindh, Wajid Durrani also appeared before the court and said that 40% of police officers had political affiliations. The Chief Justice remarked the court had ordered that shoulder promotions be stopped but this was not implemented in Sindh.
Chief Justice remarked that the police could control the situation but was not doing so and assured IG Sindh that the court was there to strengthen him because this was a matter of strengthening Pakistan.
