ISI report on Karachi violence cannot be made public: SC
* Sindh IG informs court up to 40% policemen in Karachi politically affiliated

KARACHI: The chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) on Friday said that a report, produced by the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) in the court, could not be made public.
A larger bench of the Supreme Court, comprising CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ghulam Rabbani, was hearing the suo motu case regarding the target killings and violence in Karachi on Friday.
“The ISI has briefed to the court and also submitted a comprehensive report,” the CJP said, adding that the report contained very important information about the violence. “The ISI’s report is very important but the court cannot make it public, the CJP added.
The CJP told the IG that the court had advised him to form a team of professional and honest police officials to take indiscriminate action against criminals in Karachi.
The CJP also asked the IG that why the police released Muhammad Atif and Abdul Hakeem, accused of Chakra Goth police attack, adding that the Station House Officer (SHO) should be suspended for releasing the suspects.
The IG informed the court that the investigation officer of the case had been suspended and the station house officer (SHO) had been removed.
Attorney General Molvi Anwarul Haq on Friday submitted a report of the Intelligence Bureau regarding law and order situation in Karachi.
Advocate General Abdul Fatah Malik submitted the progress report of cases related to incidents of violence.
Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police Wajid Durrani told the Supreme Court on Friday “since 30 to 40 percent of policemen have political affiliations, therefore, we face difficulty in taking departmental action against them due to political pressure”.
The IG said, “We are not independent and that his hands were tied.” He said that he could not transfer any police official on his own.
The bench directed the advocate general to submit details of incidents of firing on buses in Banaras and other areas and about kidnapping of a football player from Lyari area.
Justice Chaudhry also directed the IG to ensure the arrest of absconding accused involved in the murder of Ali Muhammad Dahri advocate.
The CJP while disposing of the suo motu notice directed him to finalise the investigation and submit a final report in the trial court. The hearing has been adjourned till September 13.
