Qawwali legend Maqbool Sabri passes away
JOHANNESBURG: Famous Qawwal Maqbool Ahmed Sabri passed away in South Africa on Wednesday, Geo News reported.
He learnt music from his father and formed a Qawwali group at the age of eleven which came to be known as the Sabri Brothers. Their first recording was released in 1958 and they were the first exponents of Qawwali to the West.
Speaking to Geo News his nephew Amjad Sabri said his uncle was like a father to him and the family was grief stricken when they heard the news. He added that Maqbool was a heart patient and was receiving treatment in South Africa.
Maqbool Sabri leaves behind a wife and five children.
