SC expresses dissatisfaction over police reports on Karachi

KARACHI: A two-member bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmani, on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over the reports submitted by the Karachi Police in compliance with an interim order in a suo motu case on the law and order situation in Karachi. The bench also summoned the Sindh advocate general, and senior police hierarchy, including inspector general of Sindh Police and the chief capital police officer, to appear before the court today (Wednesday). It may be mentioned that Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took suo motu notice of the law and order situation in Karachi on August 22 and constituted a larger bench for hearing of the case. The bench comprising Justice Chaudhry, Justice Jamali, Justice Osmani, Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ghulam Rabbani completed the hearing of the case on September 15 and reserved the judgement. The court also passed an interim order and directed the Sindh Additional Inspector General Police Saud Mirza to instruct all four Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Karachi to ensure that there was no extortion in their respective areas. app
