Nawaz exploiting floods for political mileage: PPP

ISLAMABAD: Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Firdaus Ashiq Awan Wednesday criticised Pakistan Muslim League-N President Nawaz Sharif for exploiting the flood for political mileage instead of offering compensation to the people of the flood-affected areas in Sindh. Briefing the media about the federal cabinet meeting, Awan said that Nawaz Sharif was presently visiting the flood-affected areas of Sindh and was criticising the government for not taking appropriate steps for the people affected by the floods, which she believed was rubbing salt into the wounds of the flood victims. She said that criticism for the sake of criticism should be avoided during this time of national crisis, as this would affect national unity. Awan said that the citizens trusted the government and that the government trusted them and that false propaganda was being spread with regard to the credibility of the government by certain elements, which was against the national interests. In reply to a question, she said that the nation hoped that Nawaz Sharif would join hands with the government in relief efforts and would not try to get political mileage from the misery of the people of Sindh. staff report
