PML-N tells US to ease tensions

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday stressed the need for de-escalating the Pak-US tension following Washington’s accusations against Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) that it had links with Haqqani network. A two-member PML-N delegation, comprising party Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq and Opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, held a meeting with political counselor of the US Embassy in Islamabad, Jonathan Pratt, in the Punjab House, and discussed the Pak-US relations. Although the meeting was scheduled earlier, its significance rose due to ongoing tension between Pakistan and US over the latest spate of allegations that ISI was fighting a proxy war in Afghanistan by helping the Haqqani network. “We have asked the US officials to play their role in defusing tension as it will not be in the interest of both the countries,” Zafarul Haq told Daily Times. “They have been conveyed that such kind of allegations will not serve any purpose and will ultimately hurt the efforts against war on terror,” he said. Nisar also impressed upon the US officials to recognise the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan in the war against terrorism. “Pakistan suffered heavily in this war which ought to be recognised,” Nisar said. tanveer ahmed
