Afaq Ahmed detained under MPO for another monthKARACHI: Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) chairman Afaq Ahmed was detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) for another month shortly after the court issued no objection certificate for his release here on Wednesday. He was likely to be released as he had been acquitted from most of the cases and given bail in remaining ones. The Sindh government had issued order to the Malir jail authorities to keep the MQM-H chief under detention in Malir jail as his release would jeopardise peace in the city. A large number of people who have gathered outside the jail to receive their leader were disappointed over the government order. MQM-H activists also held a protest demonstration on the National Highway against more detention. Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has condemned the Sindh government for detaining Ahmed and termed it a contempt of court. The Sindh government was ragging the court verdicts and pushing the opposition towards the wall in a bid to please its collation partner, said PTI spokesman in a statement. He praised the courts and said that they were performing their duties very well. He said that court had freed Ahmed in many cases and accepted his bail in his last case too but the Sindh government detained him once again for one-month under MPO right after his release. He said that PTI had a vision that everyone should have right to participate in politics in the independent Pakistan and it was the beauty of democracy. He continued that one should not stop to take part in politics by force. staff report
