Altaf concerned over security situation
KARACHI: Muttahida Quami Movement leader, Altaf Hussain has said that Pakistan was facing multifaceted threats both internally and externally and emphasized that Muslim unity should remain intact at all costs.
In his telephonic address at the Muslim Unity Conference in Karachi, he said Pakistan is at crossroads and underscored the need for religious tolerance and sectarian harmony in the current climate.
He asked the Ulema whether their job is only to issue religious decrees (Fatwas) and give sermons or they were ready to put a practical step forward. "Just by passing the buck if one thinks he has done his part, it would be nothing more than hypocrisy and deception and there is no room for either," Altaf added.
Criticising Pakistani leaders, he said they are not supportive of humanity as they are friends of only savages and oppressors. Disagreements within our ranks only favoured the enemies of Islam and Pakistan, he added.
He condemned the killing of innocent Muslims regardless of their creed, declaring it a cruel and inhuman act and asked the clerics if they were ready to form a Sunni-Shia joint forum at this point in time.
The MQM leader further said that rulers, army and the establishment agencies will have to take bold steps to enforce writ of the government. "And if these institutions failed, then the country would be torn into pieces," he warned.
He also said if the citizens were not provided security, then Barelvis, Ahl-e-Sunnat, Shias and Christians would all demand their separate states.
He regretted that sectarian killings had become the order of the day and asked where the writ of the state was and what were ISI, MI and IB doing.
"If no security could be provided to the life and property of people, then the institution of army and ISI should be disbanded," he said.
The conference was attended by Ulema of all orientations.
