Allies reject increase in POL prices
ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Awami National Party (ANP), two major allies of the government, have rejected increase in petroleum prices, saying that they can no more accept injustice to the people of Pakistan. The ANP has also demanded resignation of Adviser to the PM on Petroleum Dr Asim Hussain while the MQM has called for the closure of OGRA. Condemning the increase in POL prices for the second time in a week, ANP spokesman Senator Zahid Khan said on Saturday that if the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources has no role in setting of POL prices, it should be dissolved. “If Dr Asim Hussain cannot manage the ministry, it will be better for him to give chance to some capable persons,” the senator said. He said the ANP has already filed an adjournment motion in the Senate about adjustment in POL prices on a monthly basis and the party would also protest in parliament. The MQM parliamentary leader in the Senate, Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, also condemned another increase in POL prices, and said people were already bearing the brunt of unemployment and price hike and they cannot afford more increase. He vowed to disclose some secrets about the increase in POL prices in the Senate for which an adjournment motion will be filed. agencies
