LB polls should be held after general election: Shahbaz

By Asif Mehmood

LONDON: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that that the demand of local bodies elections was a political stunt of the Zardari-led coalition government. While speaking to the workers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) UK on Wednesday, he said that local bodies elections should be held after general elections. Shahbaz said that if Zardari was so keen for holding local bodies elections, he should start from other provinces instead of Punjab.

He said that the PPP government created a lot of hurdles in the appointment of chief election commissioner. However, Nawaz Sharif stood by his decision and chose one the most honest person, Fakhruddin G Ibrahim, for the position, he added. Shahbaz said that no party or leader could alone solve the problems of the country. He said that Pakistan Army was playing a vital role in rooting out terrorism and urged the courts not to bail out elements involved in terrorism. Shahbaz said that it was the duty of the army, bureaucracy, politicians, judiciary, and the whole nation to eliminate extremism and militancy from the country.
