Indo-Pak Foreign Ministers discuss bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD: Indian Minister for External Affairs SM Krishna arrived here at the Pakistan Foreign Office Saturday to resume talks on bilateral ties with his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar, Geo News reported.

On Friday, both Pakistan and India appeared upbeat after SM Krishna arrived here for the resumed dialogue with Hina Rabbani Khar. The two sides evolved a consensus on the visa issuance policy during the foreign secretary-level talks.

According to the consensus evolved during the talks at the Foreign Office, eight categories of visas would be issued. The types include diplomatic, non-diplomatic, 36-hour transit visit, tourist visas, civil society, media and business visas. The tourist visa would be limited to five destinations with validity for a period of six months, while the diplomatic visa category would offer visas to the consular, the consular mission and their family members.

Five hundred Pakistanis would be allowed to offer pilgrim in Ajmer Sharif, while Indian Sikh community would come to Pakistan for their religious festivals. The special concision would be given to old citizens.

Pakistan said soon after the arrival of Krishna that discussions between Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani and his Indian counterpart Ranjan Mathai at the Foreign Office were ‘positive’ and ‘fruitful’.

It was in July last year that the two foreign ministers had met in New Delhi, and the two sides had agreed to improve trade ties. Soon after that India was granted the MFN status by Pakistan.
