Indian foreign minister terms Pakistan visit 'fruitful'
LAHORE: Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna Sunday termed his visit to Pakistan as fruitful and said his country wants a stable and peaceful Pakistan as its neighbour, Geo News reported.
Krishna Sunday arrived here to wrap up his three-day official visit. During his visit both countries signed the historic liberalized visa regime that will promote people-to-people contact.
The Indian foreign minister also met Punjab Governor and chief minister and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
"It is my earnest desire and the desire of Dr Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India and the people of India that we would like to see a stable, peaceful, progressive Pakistan as our neighbor because that will be beneficial to the entire region," the Indian foreign minister told reporters at the Lahore airport.
Krishna referred to the signing of the lenient visa pact and a cultural promotion agreement saying it will boost cordial ties between the two countries.
He was warmly received at the airport by Provincial Minister for Jails, Abdul Ghafoor Chaudhry and senior officials.
Krishna meets Khosa
Punjab governor Sardar Latif Khosa Sunday said that Jang Group’s “Aman Ki Asha” programme had played a pivotal role in improving the ties between Pakistan and India.
He said this while talking to India’s Foreign Minister, SM Krishna, who called on him at the Governor House here.
Speaking on the occasion Krishna said the people as well as the government of India wanted to see a Pakistan that was stable, peaceful, and flourishing.
“My visit to Pakistan has been tremendously productive and both the countries have come closer by leaps and bounds in just last three days with the signing of landmark visa easing accord”, said Krishna.
Governor Khosa was of the view that dialogue between the two nuclear powers should resolve all the outstanding issues including Kashmir.
Krishna meets Shahbaz Sharif
Following his meeting with Khosa, SM Krishna met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
During the meeting Sharif said that differences from the past should be forgotten and both countries should think of the future.
Meanwhile Krishna said that Pakistan and India would have to work together to eliminate terrorism.
Krishna departs for India
After visiting historical sites in Lahore, S.M. Krishna has departed for India after his three day visit.
Krishna visited several historial sites in Lahore on Sunday and while speaking to the media at Minar-e-Pakistan said both countries would have to live as good neighbours.
Krishna further said that more measures were required to the move the relationship between India and Pakistan forward.
