27 die as rains wreak havoc across country
KARACHI: The spate of rains in different parts of the country continues. At least twenty-seven people have died in rain-related incidents that included electrocution the roofs of several houses collapsing.
Rains wreaked havoc in most parts of Sindh, by interrupting power supply, choking the sewage system, submerging the residential areas under rain water, damaging life and property, while relief was still awaited.
In Punjab, the roofs of several houses collapsed injuring several persons. Faisalabad, Jhang, Multan, Lodhran, Boraywala and other areas are still receiving rain. Two persons were killed, as roof of a house at Nishatabad collapsed. In Rahimyar Khan, a mother and her five children were injured due to the roof of a house collapsing in Nawankot, while at Lodhran two children were wounded. Multan also revived heavy showers as water accumulated in several areas of the city.
Trains have been delayed for hours due to the rains, while the night coach service was cancelled, leaving passengers stranded platforms.
The power supply system was disrupted at Kandhkot and surrounding areas, as 12 grid stations tripped due to torrential rains.
Ghotki, Obaro, Dharki, Mirpur Mathelo, Khanpur and Mehar were also lashed by heavy rains with lightening for more than five hours submerging roads and streets under knee deep water. Low lying area in Hyderabad are also inundated under accumulated rain water, while the citizens spent sleepless night as water gushed into their houses and power supply broke down.
