ANP’s Sindh govt resignation a political move: Sherpao

Staff Report

PESHAWAR: Pakistan People’s Party-Sherpao (PPP-S) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Sherpao on Saturday criticised the Awami National Party for resigning from the Sindh government over the Local Government Act (LGA), calling it “a political move to deceive the innocent Pakhtuns”.
Speaking during a meeting with party leaders, Sherpao said ANP had kept a shameful silence over the killing of innocent Pakhtuns in Karachi during the last four-and-a-half years.
“The government should have restored the act much earlier,” Sherpao added.
He said that PPP and its partners wanted to divert the attention of the people from serious issues by restoring the LGA, adding that ANP wanted to “avail the chance by playing politics over the act”.
Sherpao said innocent Pakhtuns had shed their blood for the past four years, but the ANP and its allies had not bothered to protect them and their property.
“Their policies have been exposed and they cannot deceive the people by raising hollow and false slogans of protecting Pakhtuns’ rights,” the PPP-S chairman said.
He also rejected the recent hike in petroleum prices saying that the government had failed to devise an effective policy to stabilise the country’s economy.
“The flawed economic policies and worst law and order situation have plunged the country into a complete chaos,” he said.
Sherpao said the law and order situation was deteriorating in various parts of the province and tribal areas due to wrong and ineffective policies of the government.
“The province may witness another crisis in the form of mass displacement from the militancy-affected areas if tangible and serious steps are not taken to stem the rising tide the militancy,” he said.
He also condemned the Jandol Police Station blast in Lower Dir and asked the government to take immediate action against the militants. Sherpao criticised the ANP-led provincial coalition for its indifferent attitude towards the flood-affected IDPs residing in Jalozai camp and asked the government to facilitate them in all possible ways.
