Quaid-e-Azam’s death anniversary observed in country

ISLAMABAD: The 64th death anniversary of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, was observed on Tuesday with great reverence and a resolve to follow his golden principles of “unity, faith and discipline”.

Several public and private organisations along with educational institutions held proceedings during which different aspects of the life of Quaid-i-Azam were highlighted. He united the Muslims of the sub-continent in the struggle for a separate homeland. People from different walks of life, including government officials, political leaders and people from the general population, visited the Quaid’s mausoleum in Karachi to pay their respects. Recitations of the holy Quran were held in all major mosques of the country, including those in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The Nazaria-i-Pakistan Council (NPC) arranged a formal proceeding for the recitation of the holy Quran in Faisal Mosque, Islamabad, to pray for the soul of Quaid-i-Azam. Ambassadors of Muslim countries, renowned scholars, politicians and members of civil society attended the event.

A collective prayer was offered for blessing the soul of Quaid-i-Azam and for peace and prosperity in the country. Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) will organise a national literary seminar on ‘Literature and Tehreek-e-Pakistan’ today (Wednesday). National Heritage and Integration Federal Secretary Asif Ghafoor will preside over the seminar while Dr Ehsan Akbar will be the chief guest. Prof Jalil Aali and Dr Hameed Ullah Hashmi will also express their views. Dr Salahud Din Darvaish will present an article on Quaid-e-Azam written by Manto. Anjum Khaleeq and Khrushid Rabbani will also give a poetic tribute to the Quaid. afp
