Malik says visit by UN delegation routine matter
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that visit by United Nations Special Working Group was just a routine visit by the delegation to analyse the missing persons’ case. The UN delegation was not on a fact-finding mission, he added.
Talking to media outside Parliament House on Wednesday, Malik said the mission would only examine 109 applications regarding the missing persons. He said the team was visiting on the invitation of the Foreign Office. Only those are against the visit who are involved in creating unrest in Balochistan, he added.
Malik said Pakistan is a sovereign country and the mission has no mandate to investigate any issue. The government would not allow any agency to interfere in country’s internal affairs, he added.
He said the mission would be provided complete security. He would meet the UN mission and would present view point of the country, he added.
The minister said there was a wide definition of missing persons. Kidnapped people, migrants and absconders are also being termed missing persons, he remarked, adding that an earlier claim of 6,000 missing persons in Balochistan has been proven wrong. agencies
