PM lauds Gordon Brown’s aim to spread education in Pakistan
TIANJIN: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Wednesday welcomed former British prime minister Gordon Brown’s announcement to visit Pakistan with a delegation of experts to promote education in the country.
Brown met with Raja on the sidelines of World Economic Forum’s meeting. He apprised the prime minister that he had been tasked by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to help countries promote education in the context of Accelerated Millennium Development Goals (AMDGs).
He said he intended taking a delegation to Pakistan comprising academics, information technology experts and representatives of international business houses and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The technology experts would work to expand education in Pakistan using modern technologies, he added.
Brown said his delegation after its visit to Pakistan would prepare a report on the requirements of the country and then present its recommendation at a meeting to be held in April. The United Nations secretary general, the secretaries general of UNESCO and UNICEF and the World Bank president would be present in the meeting, he added. He also conveyed his best wishes for President Asif Ali Zardari.
The prime minister also held a meeting with the Inspur Group chairman and CEO. Inspur Group is a leading Chinese information technology company. Raja invited the company to invest in Pakistan’s emerging information technology sector. app
