NA passes resolution against videoISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Thursday strongly condemned the airing of a defamatory video about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the US. Adopting a unanimous resolution, the lawmakers criticised the heinous act. They also expressed grief over the tragic fire incidents in Karachi and Lahore which resulted in loss of hundreds of lives and called it a “national disaster”. The last day of the session could only discuss a few points on its agenda because the lawmakers focused on the video and Lahore and Karachi incidents by suspending the order of the day. Haji Fazal Karim drew the attention of the House towards airing of this film, which he said caused great resentment in Muslims around the globe. The House expressed its anger over the video and the fire incidents. Karim moved a resolution in this regard but it was clubbed with the government’s resolution to condemn the video. The resolution read, “Such actions synchronised with the commemoration of atrocious events like 9/11 provoke hatred and enmity within societies and between people of various faiths. The event has deeply hurt the feelings of the people of Pakistan and Muslims all over the world.” It also noted, “Pakistan is a strong proponent of inter-faith harmony and believes that all manifestations of extremist tendencies must be opposed.” Later, leader of the opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called it a shameful act. Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said the resolution was reflective of sentiments of Muslims and urged that the civilised world should rise against this heinous act. tanveer ahmed
