BB case: BDS makes startling disclosure

RAWALPINDI: An officer of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) has, during an interrogation in connection with Benazir Bhutto's murder case, made a startling revelation that Liaquat Bagh, the venue of the PPP public meeting, had not been cleared by BDS and that it was called in only after the December 27, 2007 tragedy.

Chaudhry Habib-ur-Rehman, an anti-terrorism court judge, undertook a jail-trial of the accused in BB murder case. During the hearing two witnesses Dr Amjad and a BDS expert Saqlain had their statements recorded.

The defence counsels said that the venue of the public meeting had not been got scanned by BDS for clearance and the BDS was called in following the suicide attack outside Liaquat Bagh.

Huge amount of explosive material was used in the assassination of the former prime minister.

Dr Amjad, who had treated the injured of that day's attack and carried out post-mortems of dead bodies also recorded his statement.

The hearing on the petition against court orders for confiscation of the proclaimed offender General (Retd) Pervaiz Musharraf was adjourned till September 22.
