Raja directs IT Ministry to speed up work on UTCs
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf urged IT Ministry officials to further improve their efficiency so that the objectives and tasks assigned to the ministry could be achieved at the earliest. Raja said this while chairing a meeting at the PM’s House of the ministry to review the Universal Tele Centres (UTC) programme.
The IT Ministry secretary apprised the prime minister that each UTC would have 10 personal computers or laptops with a broadband connection of 2MB along with a scanner and a printer. The operators would be trained and the UTC would be fully furnished, the secretary added. Raja was further informed that a UTC could be established within two weeks. The establishment of each UTC would create jobs for 50 people, the secretary added. The prime minister directed that UTC be established where people were deprived of IT so that they could benefit from modern technology. Raja was informed that 95pc of the area in Balochistan has been provided broadband connectivity.
The prime minister also directed that three UTCs should be established in Balochistan on top priority. staff report
