PM Ahsraf takes notice of infected Australian sheep issue

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has taken notice of the infected Australian sheep issue brought to Karachi after Bahrain refused to unload them.

The prime minister has directed the Sindh government to present a detailed inquiry report within seven days. According to a statement by the PM house, the report must cite those responsible.

Over 22,000 infected Australian sheep were unloaded in Port Qasim Karachi after they were refused entry by Bahrain.

The culling of the sheep has been ordered after officials from the Sindh Livestock Department confirmed that they were suffering from scabby mouth disease.

"The samples from the sheep tested positive for 100 percent presence of salmonella and actinomyces, a couple of pathogens", officials added further.

They also tested positive for 44 percent E. Coli, a species of bacterium, which could be highly pathogenic.
