Dual nationals can’t be given law making authority: SC
ISLAMABAD: Dual nationality holders could not be given the authority for law making, said the judges in remarks during the hearing of dual nationality case on Tuesday here, Geo News reported.
Supreme Court three-member bench headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the dual nationality case, when the court was told on behalf of the dual nationality holder Punjab assembly member Amna Buttar that she would not be going to the assembly in future.
Justice Khilji Arif referring to British nationality said that the British national thinks himself the slave of the Queen and added that the common man has the right to ask the member parliament about his dual nationality.
Chief Justice remarked that no compromise could be made on the dual national in the parliament making laws relating to country’s security.
MPA Amna Buttar’s lawyer said that she was now aware of the dual nationality law and his client would not attend the assembly any more.
MNA Sardar Shahjahan’s lawyer denied that his client holding dual nationality and said that actually his client’s wife holds British nationality and not he.
Member assembly Farhat Mahmood and Nadia Gabol’s lawyer didn’t appear in the court today.
Later, the court went on a break. Attorney General would be conclusive arguments in this case today.
