Interpol asked to block anti-Islam material on Web

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has asked Interpol Secretary General Ronald K Noble to ensure blocking of all anti-Islamic material from the Internet, saying it was highly detrimental to the war on terror.

In a letter to Noble, on September 14, the interior minister asked him to take up the matter with major search engines to ensure they blocked all anti-Islamic material on the Internet as it was highly detrimental to the war on terror and had led to worldwide protests. “We have signatures that there are certain elements that have engineered anti-Islamic, anti-religious slogans, videos and audios. They are damaging interfaith harmony and are hence highly dangerous to the world,” Malik said. He emphasised to the Interpol secretary general to take cognisance of the matter and make it mandatory to block any such anti-Islamic material from the Internet.

Talking about effective legislation over the subject, Malik said a draft might be placed before the upcoming Interpol General Assembly meeting in Rome. Malik said he would highlight the negativity caused by such hate and blasphemous material at the meeting and explain how such content worked against everyone’s interest in fighting for peace. Separately, talking to Railways Minister Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, the interior minister said the federal government would provide all possible assistance to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in its efforts to further improve the law and order situation in the province. app
