Following army deployment protest ends near diplomatic enclave

ISLAMABAD: Over 40 policemen including an SHO and five protesters were injured as an anti-Islam film protest turned violent near the diplomatic enclave in Islamabad.

Demonstrators’ part of the anti-Islam film protest clashed with police when they were stopped from entering the red zone and proceeding towards the diplomatic enclave in Islamabad.

Protesters burnt police and Rangers check posts, damaged several vehicles and public property, while the police used tear gas shelling to control the situation.

After the shelling proved to be ineffective, the army was summoned to stop the protesters from entering the red zone and a heavy contingent of police, Rangers and FC were deployed outside the diplomatic enclave.

The diplomatic enclave in Islamabad is home to most Western Embassies including the US, French and British Embassies.
