Lahore books 6,000 for violence during protestLAHORE: Police on Saturday registered cases against more than 6,000 violent protesters on the occasion of Youm-e-Ishq-e- Rasool (PBUH). The accused included those who ransacked public and private property, pelted stones at police, looted banks and shops, set ablaze police pickets, vehicles and motorcycles at various areas in the city, including the Mall, Ferozepur Road, Multan Road, Shahdara, Garhi Shahu area, the US consulate vicinity and Shimla Pahari. At least 36 people have been arrested and put in judicial custody for a period of 14 days, according to sources. A total of 21 people were arrested from Karachi and were produced before a special anti-terrorism court. Families of those arrested protested against the action. agencies
