Dual nationality: AGP’s clarification memo to CEC

ISLAMABAD: Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Tuesday sent a memo clarifying the disqualification of the dual nationality holder parliament members stressing on taking actions against them in accordance with the constitution instead of the court order, Geo Mews reported.

AGP Irfan Quadir in a letter written to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) said that under Article 5 of the constitution the Election Commission has to make a decision itself on the issue of dual nationality and added that none of the court including the Supreme Court could give directives to the Election Commission.

The memo further said that the disqualification of the dual nationality holder parliament members have been done under Article 631(c) and CEC while taking action should keep in view the constitution and his oath to it.
