ECP can deploy army to ensure fair polls: CEC

ISLAMABAD: The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Fakhruddin G Ibrahim Thursday vowed to ensure free and fair elections in the country, saying if required the army personnel will be deployed at polling stations.

"Pakistan's future hinges on transparent polls, so no compromise will be made towards holding free and fair elections," the CEC resolved while talking to media persons here.

To a question, he said media persons, representatives of civil society and, if required, even army personnel will be deployed at polling stations to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the country.

He said the political parties have also been asked to extend their cooperation for holding transparent polls. Election Commission will be responsible if fair elections are not held, so no compromise will be made to make them free and fair, he added.
