ECP proposes increase in NA, PA seats for Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has proposed increase in the seats for Balochistan's National and provincial assemblies, Geo News reported.

The meeting of ECP and political parties was held under the chair of chief election commissioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim here Thursday. Mainstream including ruling and opposition political parties attended the meeting.

Addressing the participants of the meeting, the Chief Election Commissioner said only transparent elections would be accepted in the country, adding the responsibility for holding free and fair elections rests more on political parties.

Secretary ECP informed the meeting that a photo of voter would also be present in the lists, adding overseas Pakistanis have been included in these lists.

He said dual nationality holders cannot sit in the current assemblies. They are also not eligible to contest elections in future.

The secretary proposed a seat for every district of Balochistan in the national assembly besides increasing provincial assembly seats.

With this proposal, the number of seats would be increased to 30 from the current 14 for Balochistan in the NA.
