MQM reiterates demand for army in Karachi

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader, Dr Farooq Sattar on Saturday asked why Army could not be called in Karachi, if Rangers is assigned duties to control law and order in the city. Speaking to the media, Sattar said according to the Constitution, Rangers had been in the city to provide protection for 22 years. When asked why the Army could not be called in to provide protection to people and the business community. “I am not saying that the Rangers are partial, but certain expediencies do not let them do their job.” Sattar added when people from the Katchi community return home they are welcomed with bombs, bullets and rockets. He said under such circumstances only Army could control the situation in Karachi. The MQM leader informed the media that a decision to attend the special cabinet session on September 3 over law and order situation in Karachi would be made after consultation. inp
