No formal talks with Taliban yet: Interior Minister
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Sunday clarified that no formal talks were in progress with the Taliban, however, the government has devised a policy in this regard and implementation on the same will begin after taking the political parties into confidence.
In a statement, Ch Nisar said most of the media reports in connection with the Taliban talks are not based on reality.
“This is an extremely complicated issue. The government has, in this regard, chalked out a strategy which will be implemented after all political parties are taken into confidence,” he said.
He said it would be pre-mature to say that talks have gone underway between the government and Taliban.
The Interior Minister said that the Prime Minister on his return from Karachi next week intends to contact the heads of significant political parties over the issue.
He advised the media to desist from disseminating news without mentioning the names of a minister and government officials and that the Interior Ministry be approached for confirmation of a news item.
